Flashing a new image to your Zgemma H7 satellite receiver.

Your Zgemma H7 receiver will probably be shipped with the OpenAtv firmware already installed on it. (see https://www.opena.tv/downloads/

Most firmware images do basically the same thing but they all have there own little “tweaks” that developers and users prefer.

You can look at the Internet forums to get details of each versions particular look and feel.

If you feel brave enough to make a change and start a whole new adventure into tailor-making your receiver to you own requirements then read the guide below.

Remember to always back-up your important info to re-install if all goes wrong, first.

I take no responsibility for anything that might go wrong if you do not take backups before changing anything on your Zgemma receiver.

Any changes to your supplied receiver are taken at your own risk.

    1) Download a latest release version of your chosen (favourite) firmware image directly from the developers website.

Here are a few of the most used but there are others out there.

    a) OPENPLI https://openpli.org/download/zgemma/H7

    b) OPENDROID http://images.opendroid.org/

    c) OPENSPA https://openspa.webhop.info/

    2) When the file has downloaded and been saved to your computer unzip it.

You will then have a file named [zgemma]. (Inside that folder you should have another folder named [H7] ).

    a) Copy the full folder named [zgemma] to a freshly formatted (FAT32) USB key. I used a generic 16gb key but most should work if formatted correctly. Most errors are created with this simple task so make sure that you do not take any short cuts.

    3) Turn off your H7 receiver with the white button at the rear next to power input.

    4) Plug in your USB key with the zgemma folder on it (any USB port should be OK).

    5) Behind the front flap (door panel) you will see a small button to the top left hand side.

Hold this button down (push in) whilst turning on the rear white power push button.

Keep the front button pushed in and on the front LCD panel you will see the display change from BOOT> USB> FLASH.

When FLASH is displayed you can remove your finger from the from button.

The receiver will now remain displaying FLASH (approx 2minutes) whilst the new firmware is loaded onto your receiver.

    6) The box will then restart itself showing BOOT on the front screen.

    7) You should then see your new firmware installed on the TV screen and the installation wizard will run you through the set-up process.

  • Hi, I have three ZGemma boxes

    h2h - h5 - h7s

I would like an opinion on which image to use in each of them, because for example it seems that with h2h you better turn the openVix rather than openATV

    Please advise me

I really like OpenATV (although unlike OpenVix) you have to customize it a lot while OpenVix is very well configured

    Thank you

  • you cannot use openvix on zgemmas unless you use a hacked version. openvix doesn't support zgemmas.

Nothing wrong with openatv. Openatv you just have to add in your own softcams software. Everything else is pretty much configured the same.

    Code
hello .... let's say yes ..... but on OpenATV you have to: activate the vision of the MiniTV, change the color of EPG, install the plugin for sofcam ..... let's say that every time you do the flash you have to reconfigure everything !!!!

In theory yes, but once you have settled on an image, you make all necessary personal adjustments and then you make a full backup image of your changes. Then when you reflash, you reflash your backup and not a fresh image.

Also some of the things you mention, like epg colour and minitv are just skin dependant. Install a good skin you wont have to do any of that stuff as the skin will do it all for you.

  • I do a hell of a lot of faffing on my box due to the nature of my skin and plugin work, but I only ever to a clean install about every 3 months now.

There is no need to do constant software updates or reflashing. If your box is working fine, and you have made all your personal amends. Just leave it be.

Old saying... if it isn't broke, don't fix it ;)

    Silly Billy me...:rasta2bigsmoke0gf1:

"Enlightenment is man's emergence from his self-incurred immaturity. Immaturity is the inability to use one's own understanding without the guidance of another. This immaturity is self-incurred if its cause is not lack of understanding, but lack of resolution and courage to use it without the guidance of another. The motto of enlightenment is therefore: Sapere aude! Have courage to use your own understanding!"
