Because of this the MP2 team decided to publish another Pre release version to allow the community to benefit from all the bug fixes and improvements that we added since the beginning of the year.

Highlights of this release

New WMC skin

Coming from WMC, because not able to use it anymore with Windows 10, but looking for the same lean usability? The new WMC skin will offer the full look and feel, that you are used to and offer a lot of additional opportunities making it even better.

Completely reworked media management

All kind of media (movie, series, audio, videos, etc.) will now be automatically scraped. Respective online information (descriptions, covers, posters, fanart, artists, etc.) is downloaded and added to the central database. Users can define which online sources to use and what kind of data to download. Local fanarts and descriptions are also supported.

Enhanced movie and series management

Movies can now be shown filtered by collections (aka movie sets)

Now there is also an indicator for the watched percentage of movies and their collections as well as for series and seasons.

Blu-ray Disc Java (BD-J) allows bonus content on Blu-ray discs to be far more sophisticated than bonus content provided by standard DVD. This includes network access, picture-in-picture and access to expanded local storage. You need to install Java to use this feature.

TV

MediaPortal can handle TV channels from satellite, cable, as well as DVB-T/T2 and IP streams. It includes an electronic program guide (EPG), recording scheduling and recording management. Logos for your TV channels are automatically retrieved and added to your TV database.

Media Management

All kind of media (movie, series, audio, videos, etc.) are automatically scraped. Respective online information (descriptions, covers, posters, fanart, artists, etc.) is downloaded and added to the central database. Users can define which online sources to use and what kind of data to download.

Local fanarts and descriptions from NFO files are also supported. Data can later be enriched with online information if desired.

Filter and Sorting settings that are available in all screens allow the definition of individual views for every kind of media. Different views can be set for each hierarchical level (e.g. Series/Season/Episode).

Localized language information will be used to retrieve Movie and Series data from Online sources. However, the original language will be used If files don't contain any local language audio stream. For example a movie that holds only French language streams will be displayed with its French title and summary even if the local language is English.

Music

Information is either read from tagged file data and/or downloaded from online sources. The integrated player displays album and track information together with fanart in combination with a dynamic equalizer visualization.

Movies

Movie information is imported including title, summary and other data such as director, character and actor.

MyVideos

We fixed some bugs with video views, especially collections, user groups and libraries. We also added new properties to display icons of movie awards, extended MPAA text and movie awards text. Skinners now have the possibility to add badges for collections, user groups, new and actualized movies, watched/unwatched movies etc. as overlays in nearly all layouts like thumbnailpanel, filmstrip and coverflow. DefaultWideHD already shows some of the new functions.

MyTV

The lists in TV Recordings now show the year of the recording, e.g. 12-03 2016 instead of only 12-03. We also added the functionality of moving or deleting channels from/to channel groups inside the GUI via context menu in TV EPG. We also fixed an issue that recording files were left open by the Streaming Server

MediaPortal General

We fixed the problem of scaling issues when using MP in windowed mode or other resolutions than the standard resolution of 1920x1080.

We fixed a proplem with Watchdog crashing on failure when trying to copy TV Server gentle.config as well as Watchdog not grabbing all TV Server configuration files.

We fixed an issue with MiniDisplay not showing the correct labels for the actual highlighted button or selected items in a dialog list.

MediaInfo

We updated the MediaInfo.dll to version 0.7.95.

MediaPortal 2.1.2 is a full-blown media center software that addresses the most common user requirements out of the box. MediaPortal 2.1 also provides access to online video sources such as Amazon Prime. Integrated news, weather information and management for your digital images complete this software package.

The modern client/server architecture in combination with the central database greatly simplifies the use and management of the system. New clients can easily be added to the environment and connected to the MediaPortal 2 Server for immediate use.

This service upgrade fixes several bugs and introduces some new features:

WakeOnLan

We added a WOL-manager to allow the automatic wake-up of the server PC when a client is switched on.

TV

We added automatic logo management: channel logos are now automatically refreshed every other week so that changes in the logo repository will be automatically available on your system.

We also fixed a bug that caused radio logos to not be downloaded.

A configurable pop-up window now signals that a scheduled recording is starting or has ended.

Player-OSD and Player configuration display

We added a setting option to allow the optional display of the player configuration dialog.

We changed the way the OSD is displayed. The first press of 'Info' will invoke the OSD, a second will either switch it off or display the player configuration, which will then close again when pressing 'Info' one more time.

Removable media

We greatly increased the speed when browsing files on removable media (e.g. pictures on a SD card).

Weather

We fixed a bug that caused temperatures to always be displayed in °C,

We added a new WMC theme 'Turquoise"

The WMC Home menu has been overworked for a better user experience

DiscArt was added to the Audio player.
