Astra 1P is already broadcasting its first channels

The new telecommunications satellite Astra 1P, owned by satellite operator SES (Astra), has officially started providing services to broadcasters from the orbital position of 19.2°E. On the night of 13 to 14 January 2025, several transponders were switched.

The first stage of the switchover involved several transponders operated directly by satellite operator SES. The change mainly affected German broadcasters broadcasting niche thematic, regional and teleshopping channels.

This change will allow for verification of signal levels in different parts of Europe before the next stages, in which the change will affect more popular broadcasters.
