VU+ UNO HD don't Flash Firmware

  • I installed open ATV 7 5-1 on the Vu + uno HD device and after the installation the flash expander was installed. The device reset itself in its head and started to restart and shut down constantly.

I connected to the device with telnet. I deleted the home and usr files. It is currently stuck on the opening screen and says starting, and I cannot connect with telnet because it does not receive an IP address.

How can I recover the device by flashing the software?

  • Unfortunately, it didn't work. Update Ch- does not appear on the screen. It remains on the screen that says Starting.

You don't need to press any button, it will flash all the files (unpack and keep the folder as is from the zip on a FAT32 Memory Stick, better a 4 Gb or lower). Insert it on the box USB... it will show the message to press the button from the frontpanel, and you will need to press it. It should then flash.

  • I tried to install different software with different USB flash drives. However, when I plug in the USB drive and start the device from the back key, it does not see the software and the "Press ch- key for update" warning does not appear on the screen.

  • You need to have a FAT Usb dongle stick, and I generally use an old one that is 1 Gb... some Memory stick doesn't work,

You also have naturally then to unpack the zip file, and have the vu folder and subfolders properly installed (you need the folders, all as on the zip archive file).

Then you put the stick on a USB port, back is always better than front... and turn on the box, that will then go to the normal process asking you if you want to flash the new firmware and pressing the frontpanel button it will ask you.

I think that probably you have the wrong usb stick, try all what you have one by one... lower and smaller in size, in FAT, is the best.

  • The box flashing system is not linked to the internal image, but it could be linked to the "master boot sector". as there is something at the start of the flash that always stays there.

If this failed while you were twisting the booting functions... you could have damaged it... I remember that we had a specific file to upgrade it, that was available for the Solo, Duo and probably Uno, to accept larger images... it could be your "savor file"...

For the Uno, I seen these things,

you could also JTAG it, with the SDK (VU+ Uno/Ultimo - BCM97413),

First of all, thank you for your interest.

I have flashed the software to the device many times before. With the same USB sticks, but the last time I flashed atv 7 5 1, I installed the flash expander and removed the flash stick when the device reset itself.

Even when I turned the device off and on from the key, it was constantly resetting. I connected to the device with Telnet and deleted the usr file with the rm - capital ru SR command.

As far as I understand, the Enigma 2 and Python files have been deleted, but since the system files have been deleted, the software download process probably does not take place, so it does not see the USB stick.

Can I reset the device from the remote control or the preset, or can I download the software via RS232? I think this is the only solution.

  • How to iinstall this files?

There is a file (I don't know if it's one of them, the second available cfe.zip) that should be in the flash stick, that automatically the box will load instead of flashing an image, and will replace the CFE/Bootloader.

Back then, VU+, released files to upgrade the CFE as the older was using less flash, and to use all the flash available you needed to upgrade the CFE Bootloader... it could be a way to resolve your issue, reflashing it clean.

  • The device is not opening now and remains on the boot screen. Since it is not opening, it is not receiving an IP and is connected to the modem via a LAN cable. It does not see the USB flash drive either. How do we flash it cleanly?

  • Is there any key combination to hard reset the device?

At the beggining they had some cable to flash the box with a nfi like file (like for dreambox),

But then all moved to usb memory stick way only...

I personally would also check the PSU, as I had the same type of symptoms with a VU+ Solo (which had few capacitors to replace on the PSU)... then all worked fine after (and if I remember also on my VU+ Uno I did the PSU capacitor replacement...).

  • Hi, I want to install nfi image with rs232 cable. Are there nfi image for vu uno hd?

It was done with the first images, I think only one was available like a blackhole... here below I found a VTI, for VU+ Solo,... never seen for VU+ Uno.
