Any Availink AVL6261 tuners?

  • Nobody seems to get it. Osmio4k, sure. SF8008 absolutely.

VU+....."Here's a tuner and you get your choice". A choice of what?

    How about the "VU+ challenge"?
Webif, Main Menu>Devices. And Bob's your uncle (but mom knows better).

"Vu+ sucks at blindscan". "VU+ won't blindscan". "What??? You expect the vendor to open a box and check them out?".
    Hellyeah I do.

Linux allows for listing every device connected to the system. 1_0_1_70_1_0_A1D1055_0_0_0_20250321182059.jpg

my old VU ultimo4k runs an even older AVL6222 (thats been repaired a few times as well lol )

Think the 2 STB's that have the 6261 tuner have been mentioned, although the sf8008 also used another type at some point (that was crap)

There is a "new version 3" SF8008 on the way that has the old AVL tuner back ( and an MS2 slot and bluethooth wifi etc etc )

  • sf8008 uses hilsilicon and testing has better sensitivity in tps with low signal than avalink, they released supreme and today there is version 3, and I think there is no perfect equipment...I have a vu+ zero 4k and comparing with sf8008 and edision osmio+ there is not much difference.

Replies like this really need a bit more research before responding.

The SF8008 and the Ustim4kpro both have the AVL6261 tuners. As the tuner modules in both are soldered in. If you tear apart the image files and look in the right directories you see in-your-face the AVL drivers.

You have mistaken the actual system IC (processor) with the tuner modules.

And. As compared to the VU+ with pluggable tuners. And other receivers with pluggable tuners. Drivers are not listed in he image files until they are actually installed.
Think of GPU in a pc. You might have and AMD, Nvidia. When you install one, drivers are installed.
    But. Never the less.

The Availink tuner is most probably not the only tuner that has passed the test of time and the company actually has taken interest in developing and releasing drivers which addresses issues including reception and scanning performance.

    Okay?

Since the manufacturer and vendor is apparently unwilling to expand on exactly what you're getting. And if I were to bite the bullet and buy every single tuner "of my choice" to try out, check the capabilites of them, and send the ones back for return that don't perform up to snuff......
Somebody mentioned why should the vendor open a box, break the seal, provide information, or take a display model and screenshot the sample that I included above.
Think how pissed off they would be if I returned open-box units that did not pass the test. Providing that they in fact did not find a lame excuse or ignore an RMA request.

I'm quite positive that nobody can deny. If you decide to buy a new phone. You know what you're getting before spending the forty-seven billion quid they're getting for them these days. If you want to buy a new pc. The same. And if you head out to the car dealer for a new ride. The salesman if going to be more than eager to pop the hood....or for some reason "Bonnet" that the limeys call it.

So that you're not caught driving up a long road with the throttle to the floor because you have a 1.3 l , naturally aspirated engine instead of the V8 you really wanted in the first place.

Screw it! I'm very, Very interested in any Octagon press releases or rumors, documentation that provides information of the nest release of the SF8008.
And since the Ustim is the same thing basically. If those specs will follow.
Jens? Do you have any links? Because apparently Google is not my friend today.

Oh. Come on WOS. Step up. What receivers do you sell that don't suck at thorough and accurate blindscans?
And what components "of my choice" will assure that they will?
What does the inside of your store look like? Or is it a drop-ship warehouse?

Things like that make companies like Dreamportugal excel and have returning customers.

  • What I read is that you know more than you ask and much of what you write is already written here in this forum, perhaps you don't need Google, I hope you find what you read here to your liking and decide what is best for you.

All i have found for it is either on other forums or on amazon.de where it is already for sale.....

i posted this translation to another thread:

I know you have had the OS mio4k + has it died a death ? That has always been highly rated as one of the best blind scanners....but sadly not made anymore.

I have had various VU plus STB's over the years.

None of the FBC tuners can blind scan (in fact i dont think any FBC tuner on any STB can blindscan)

So that either leaves you with the VU Zero4k or looking at getting an old ( and i mean used - as dont think they are made anymore) pluggable tuner that can blindscan from one of the spare tuner slots.... on say the VU ultimo4k ( that is also not made any more)

VU driver updates were always very very slow and now.... for all intensive purposes, their support for the hobby market STB has all but ended.

In short, im saying forget about getting a VU, you will be disappointed if blind scanning is your main objective.

  • JD. What is important is to think about your replies with correct information before doing so.
I would not have asked if the plethora of web searches provided more and accurate information.
So instead of giving the air that you're offended. Just try to think a bit before offering assistance.

Jens. Thank you very much. As always.

Nooo. My mio lives just fine. Luckily since I went through months after a close lightning strike that wiped out my dish mover, c band lnbf, diseqc switch.
All fixed now. Dual Norsats, ortho. Full and proper....eathing?... of everything. Multiswitch, diseqc switch, dish mover. And enough extra transient suppession, surge suppression. To at least make me feel good. But lightning don't care.

I get on freakin' rants for real. I really could give a rats a** about FBC tuners.
I live in the USA remember. Apparently here they are not a thing. And the FTA satellite 'hobby' is just that.

But we can have bigassed dishes here. Like my 12 footer.

All I care about is if I tell the receiver to scan a frequency range, sr, in blindscan mode. It does it. And does it well.

Not so sure how it is there. We're a lot alike. Satellites with transponders with fixed channels that are there and have been.

Then there are the satellites that when scanned. A transponder is activated for a game, race, event. Newscasters picking their noses. And stuff.

When the event is finished, it goes black. No signal, no nothing.

If "my choice of tuner" cannot do that. Or the manufacturer/vendor cannot or is not willing to post the specifications as detailed as you provided of the next Octagon SF8008. There is a BIG problem.

When and if. And it will happen. My Os Mio4k decides to die. Knowing what to replace it with with no buyers remorse will be very important. Right??

At least now I know a VU+ (anything) would be a VU-negative. But they do look good.

Sorry to hear about the lightening strike, that must have been an expensive repair right there !! A 12ft dish is a lot for it to aim at mind.

I have read about using an earthing rod for the mounting pole / dish. Is this what you have done ?

it always seemed a bit OTT to me. Besides my dish is only 3ft and not far from the house which is a much larger and taller target lol.

Feeds are the same over hear, the TP goes live shortly before an event and is dead shortly after.......

Generally speaking they seam to reuse the same range of TP's when the next feed comes up....but not always, and it differs between sats.

I had the original SF8008 (aka its Version 1), and it's blind scan worked very well (way better than my VU dose)

But i detested the remote control and its click click click buttons.....I believe the newer Bluetooth ones are now better ?

I had been thinking about getting one myself, but it looks like a house move is on the cards for me soon, and that will mean moving my bloody dishes yet again.... so will probably put it's purchase on the back burner for now until all of that is all sorted.

No doubt there will be some reviews about it's real world tests on the forums shortly .......

  • Not so much expensive than an annoyance. I just cannot for some reason fathom buying a vbox mover. I eventually found another Titanium ASC1.

And was seriously considering having one of the fellows over on satsuk build and ship his very nice diseqc mover.

As for the event. It was summer time. My home windows were open when a thunderstorm blew in fast.

At some point I saw a flash outside. Closer than other lightning around me. Then all of a sudden smelled ozone very strong.

Think of it like when they pop off the EMP on The Matrix. No crash of thunder. Just a flash and 'that smell'.

My home is surge proteced at the service entrance directly at the main breaker panel. No chinesium stuff.

There is up-to-code twin copper clad grounding rods bonded to the panel. All proper.

Good quality surge suppression devices at the wall outlets. UPS where all of the sat equipment and TV is. Yada yada.....

Folks who have seen my current config. have said 'too much', 'ott', 'that suff is not needed', and the ever present 'i've never had lightning or surge issues ever'. Lightning don't care. You can only be proactive.
Perhaps a bit like your handy-dandy little tool box you might have for quickie home repairs.
A six-way screwdriver, Crescent Wrench, Channel Locks, Vice Grips in the top drawer.

A hammer, wire strippers, crimpers, a small set of wrenches and maybe electrical tape, zippy ties, duct tap in the next drawer.

And condoms in the bottom drawer.

Because if you can't fix it......

As far as far as the next version of the SF8008 goes. A different tuner chipset than the AVL6261 in place of the Silabs Si2166-D60 is interesting.
At least they identified and addressed the misleading ability to scan low symbol rate transponders. I guess the Si2166 might fix that.

I wonder about the idential looking and supposedly the same (with a few diffrences).

Oops! I just looked at the specs. The Ustym 4K Pro DOES have the Si2166. Already.

Now. Ain't knowing that a whole hell of a lot better than reading "A tuner....and you have your choice".

Yaaa! Remember any of the John F. Kennedy speeches from times past? Hearing him pronounce Cuba as "cub-er" was always entertaining.

It's really nice to know that if you are offered a "Tun-er" that you can choose Bluefin, Yellowfin, Albacore, Skipjack.
