If you plan to use Kodi, I would recommend the Octagon over the AX HD61 (not used the Edision, so can't comment). The AX uses the Zgemma Kodi meta, and that is glitchy and problematic in my experience. Octagon SF8008 is the best box I have used for Kodi integration...and I've had quite a few! lol...especially if you plan to use it for 4k/HDR content. I've also used a Vu+ Zero4k, which does Kodi well, so I would imagine the other Vu+ boxes would be good as well. Dollar for dollar, though, you are paying a major premium and I didn't see the benefit personally, unless the FBC tuners are truly important to you.

For standard E2 sat/IPTV usages, they will all perform pretty similarly as long as you have the tuners you need.

So, I've now tried recording on the Zgemma H7S as well and successfully recorded 3 programs simultaneously, again using latest Vix, DVB1 stream type and the default player. All 3 recorded fully and played back perfectly and I was able to watch a 4th stream without issue and flick between programs while they recorded without problems. Certainly better results with the H7S than with the AX HD61. I have a feeling the Broadcom chipset is better for this type of thing than the Hisilicon, but that's only speculation at this point. Spec-wise, the HD61 should be able to do anything the H7S can, but it locks up completely once a 3rd recording is activated.

As mentioned in my previous post, I'll attempt some further tests with longer programs like football matches etc.

I installed no additional plugins to make it restart. I've just noticed that sometimes the recording will be split into two files, so I assumed it had stopped recording at some point then restarted. I don't record often, but I've seen this behaviour on the NFL football games that I've recorded in the past.

I do have the Quarterpounder plugin from Xpto installed of course, but not sure if that helps with the recording situation or not.

Also, if you have a good Catchup provider, the Heinz plugin from Xpto can also be used the record past events for watching later or archiving, which is another benefit over any of the android/Formuler options I believe.

I'll set it to record the next ManU match and let you know how it does.

    Hey there...I'm the "friend"! lol.

So reading through this I want to say thanks to you guys for helping him out and offering opinions. As I had mentioned to him, his desired use case isn't exactly my use case. However, while I agree with many of the things you are saying here, there are a few things I disagree with.

My setup, for clarity, is an AX HD61 running latest OpenATV as my main image. I also have a Zgemma H7S, a Vu+ Zero4k and have had multiple other boxes in the past, including the SF8008 and H9 Combo. I installed and use latest OpenVix for recording as it handles the multistream recording while ATV won't. While I don't record often, I've had very good success recording a DVB1 stream with the Default player on latest Vix. If the stream drops and the recording stops, the box restarts the recording in a separate event, but as long as your IPTV service is pretty stable that's rarely an issue. I have also recorded multiple streams simultaneously, which is this users primary desire! While the Formuler boxes may be a better option for single stream recording, they just won't do additional simultaneous recordings, while the Enigma2 will. I know in the past, I've had as many as 5 or 6 streams being recorded simultaneously but in testing this morning, I've struggled with any more than 2 while watching a 3rd. Not sure if that is image related or box related as it was on the H7S that I had more than that and the broadcom chipset might handle it better than the Hisilicon in the AX.

I'm going to run some additional tests and see exactly how well it all performs on both boxes and I'll be sure to report back.

I was having an issue with crashes while scrolling through the EPG or Channel List in Onyx. After checking the logs (with some significant help from Xpto) it was determined it was picon related.

We inserted a line into the Slyk18Picon.py file to help us identify the specific picon(s) causing the crash. The picon itself seemed fine so we inserted exception handling in the py to avoid the crash. Thought you might want to take a look just in case anyone else ever has a similar issue. The changes were made around line 226.

Surely, the picon is the root cause, but with no obvious problems with the picon, this was a good solution.

    Good morning,

Can anyone who has this box ever get the HDR to automatically engage? Obviously no live TV uses it atm, but when using Kodi or a VOD program of some kind and playing a file that supports HDR, it never engages for me. Other boxes I have using the same OpenATV 6.4 image do this with no issues, just can't get the HD61 to work. I have the HDR settings set to Auto in the Menu/Setup/Video settings. I am assuming that should be enough, but am I missing something?

    Thanks

please read here is for AX HD61 too

HD61 there are in my opinion 3 settings in use for the power LED compared to the diagonal LED - called Control LED.

for some reason you can turn on/off in “live“ mode, standby and deep standby, please try

Thanks mate. I took a look but couldn't quite understand it all. Not sure what to do with the first file...doesn't describe where the data/setup.xml file is located to edit that I could find. The others I was able to install, but they sent the box into a boot loop, assuming because I never did figure out what to do with the first file.

You'd think this thing would work out of the box! lol. It's just a light, but it bugs me that it doesn't work! Haha

Another question...sorry...is there a newer epgselection file available for Pure2? The one I’m using is about 18 months old and I seem to lose picons in the graphical epg whenever I use it. I have it set to show picons but they aren’t there. Without the epgselection file, they are there.

Sorry to be a pain. I searched the forums but didn’t find anything. Thanks

This facility may be image dependent but you don't say the vital piece of information ie What image have you in box?

Sorry, I have tried it with Open ATV, Vix and PurE2. All have a function called "Control Light" within the Menu/UI/Front Display settings, but doesn't seem to work. I can only assume that is the function for it, but not 100% sure.

    Hi all,

I just bought a new HD61 and so far I'm very happy with it! However, the front diagonal light doesn't seem to work at all. I have gone the the UI/Front Display settings and I'm assuming that it is the "Control Light" that needs to be turned "On", but it never comes on. Is there another setting somewhere or is there something physically on the box that I have to do to make it work?

    Thanks

Can I ask a dumb question...what exactly does the shared components ipk do? My understanding of it was to eliminate the need to install the mods like epgselection, etc. For me, though, I still have to install the epgselection file if I want the tabs regardless of the image I use. Am I missing something?

So I’ve been struggling with this for hours. I have tried latest PurE2 6.3, 6.5, ATV 6.3 and 6.4. All exactly the same.

Kodi installs with no issues but when I install Plex and try to play anything it kicks me out of Kodi completely. If I disable hardware acceleration in the Kodi settings, video will play but stutters terribly.

    Anyone have any ideas?

Hey everyone, trying to mount a 256gb microSD card on the combo as an hdd. Box won’t recognize the device at all. Tried exFat, NTFS and ext4 formats. Is it possible it’s too large? Zgemma specs show up to 128gb as compatible but can’t understand why larger wouldn’t work.
